There are certainties in life: death, taxes, and… the fact that pain patients who are maintained on opioids will inevitably experience constipation. This is a known side effect that may limit a patient’s quality of life and may lead to nonadherence with opioids. This course will review the pathophysiology of opioid induced constipation as well as the treatments available.
